How to Indugle over the Holidays (the right way!)

There are tons of articles and blog posts out there about how to control your eating over the holidays, how to not gain a pound, and how to prevent overeating. But what about indulging?!! We do believe that the holidays are a time to indulge. However, there are healthy and mindful ways to indulge and still have just as much fun.

1. Indulge in rich, bold, scrumptious hot chocolate. We're not talking about those old packages of instant Nestle or Swiss Miss cocoa.

Ingredients: 2-3 Tbsp raw cacao, or good quality unsweetened cocoa powder (try ChocoSol chocolate if you live in Toronto) 1 cup of hot almond milk (or steamed for extra special undulgence) 1/2 cup hot coconut milk 2-3 tsp maple syrup 1 tsp of coconut oil (optional) 1/4 tsp cinnamon

Directions: 1. In a small pot heat the almond milk and coconut milk, along with the coconut oil. 2. Stir in the cacoa powder or cocoa powder. 3. Sprinkle cinnamon on top.

2. Indulge in a bubble bath. Light candles, play some calming music, use epsom salts, and add lavender oil too (if you don't have it, then go indulge and buy a small bottle), and lots of bubbles. Check out your local health food store to find a healthy, friendly bubble bath that is free of nasty chemicals.

3. Indulge in Decadent Macaroons That are actually good for you too!

Ingredients: 3 cups shredded coconut 1/2 cup creamed coconut 1 cup cashews 1/2 cup dates 3 Tbsp maple syrup 1/4 cup water

Directions: 1. In a food processor combine the creamed coconut, cashews, dates, and maple syrup. Add a small amount of water. Blend until creamy and sticky. 2. Mix in the shredded coconut. 3. Roll into small balls to form macaroons. Place on plate in the freezer for 20 minutes to solidify.

4. Indulge in cozy socks. Especially those socks that are extra fuzzy. Oh yeah, love those footsies!!

5. Indulge in yummy, local honey. Check out Nude Bee Honey

6. Indulge in sleep. When you are on holiday, take those extra hours to cuddle up with your pillows and blankets. Sleeping gives your body that time it needs to restore, rejuvenate, and refresh. So after all those hard hours of cooking for the family, socializing, and buying presents (and after a long hard year of working) you can sleep it off and come out feeling vibrant!

7. Indulge in teas! Check out our favorite tea store in Toronto- Tealish

8. Indulge in cozying up with an amazing book. Check out Shantaram. Get it on our favorite book site, Better World Books

9. Indulge at one of our new favorite restaurants. Fabarnak located at 519 Church Street (just north of Wellsley, close to the TTC stop)

10. Indulge in amazing movies.  Check out two of our favorites, beautiful films about life and love and reality (even the guys will love these) - Before Sunrise and Before Sunset

10. Indulge in something that you would never normally do. Do something that you thought you were too shy or nervous to do.
