intuitive nutrition

So, we know you’re probably wondering “what is Intuitive Nutrition?”   Well, we have a ton of juicy stuff for you to read on our philosophy so read on and enjoy!

1. Joy for Eating

One of our main philosophies focuses on putting joy back into eating. Since the invention of spandex in the 60’s and its comeback in the 80’s, there has been an on-going crazed obsession with dieting, starving, restricting, controlling and we cannot forget calorie counting! And, what do we have to show for this kind of behaviour – bodies that are craving for real, nourishing foods and loads and loads of guilt.

This is not to say that we should go out and eat whatever we want – it’s important to be eating foods that will nourish your body and allow you to feel healthy, vibrant and energized (info on whole foods is below). Right now, it is our mission to transform the way people love and eat their food.

How do we do this, you might ask. How do you shift a large consciousness around food that has been so focused on guilt and restriction to one that is about love and transformation. Simple – it’s called, Intuitive Nutrition.

2. Intuitive Nutrition

Everybody is Different, Can We Get an Ahmen!

We know that every body needs different nutrients and foods. There is not one diet that is best for everyone and we all require something unique. By slowing down and paying attention to what we need, we can determine which foods will nourish our bodies.

Have you ever tried being a vegan when deep down you knew you were a closeted carnivore and as soon as you took that first bite of steak, things just felt right. Or vice versa – you were eating tons of meat in your diet and as you slowly weaned yourself onto the power of legumes your foggy mood lifted, your energy came back and you were a completely different person! So, you see, there isn’t just one diet that is for all of us…get it? got it? good!

The Power of Intuition

You know when you’re getting ready to lean in for that romantic goodnight kiss with the guy (or totally rad girl) who just took you on a date. The one who has it all- the great eyes, the career, the perfect plans for the future. Your head is saying-he really is the perfect guy. But something inside of you just feels off and says, stop girl!!!That’s your intuition.

We often forget to listen to this (not so little) voice inside of us. We so often only think of intuition when we are making big decisions- like knowing if a relationship is right or whether we should take on a new job. But really our intuition is just as connected to our food and what we eat.

The more we ask ourselves questions about food and gain a sensitivity to what our body needs—- the more we are listening to the wisdom of our higher self. And, the more we listen to our inner guidance about what to eat the more we grant ourselves permission to follow the things that we are called to do. Yeah, sometimes you might be called to eat a radish (and you ask yourself- what? I don’t even like radishes, I don’t even know how to prepare a radish). Sometimes we are called to switch careers, or go to a dance class, or start doing whatever that weird thing is we have always dreamed about.

And in listening- you might be really surprised at what happens. Eating that radish might leave you feeling energized and refreshed. And taking a leap and switching careers might provide the freedom and excitement you have been aching for.

The more we strengthen intuition around food, it actually strengthens our intuition around everything else too- allowing us to live from a higher place.

3. Whole Foods (or should we say Wholy Foods)

Whole foods are getting back to what food is meant to be. Did you know that loads of processed foods that are found on grocery store shelves contain ingredients like tartrazine, phosphates, caramel colour, high fructose corn syrup? Do you even know what these things are? And do you know where those things come from? We can promise you that they aren’t being raised on the farm or grown in the vegetable patch!

So, what is a whole food?

Whole foods have not been processed. Whole foods are packed full of nutrients and are overflowing with flavour, supporting the health of the body. When we look at zucchinis and broccoli and all of the vegetables, whole grain brown rice and oats, organic butter and yogurt, locally humane raised chicken, even maple syrup and honey- we do know where those foods come from. These foods haven’t been highly processed or injected with preservatives, food dyes or artificial flavours – thus, making them whole, natural foods.
